Pueblo Amante de Maria, National Consecration of the Philippines to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

"Consecration to the Mother of God," says Pope Pius XII, "is a total gift of self, for the whole of life and for all eternity; and a gift which is not a mere formality or sentimentality, but effectual, comprising the full intensity of the Christian life - Marian life." This consecration, the Pope explained, "tends essentially to union with Jesus, under the guidance of Mary."

CBCP has marked the 8th of June 2013 as a day of a nation-wide National Consecration by the Filipino Catholic Faithful to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The CBCP has directed and urged all dioceses and parishes, schools and other institutions, even families, to offer a solemnly joint public act of en-trustment to the Blessed Mother, the Mother of the Filipino people, Queen of the Philippines. We wish to do this as truly one people, “from Aparri to Jolo”: formally re-affirming that our country is indeed “pueblo amante de Maria” – bayang sumisinta kay Maria: a people truly loving Mary the Mother of Jesus the Lord, a people in a true sense “made one” by this love and devotion which we bear, by God’s great gift, to the Mother of God.

This solemn act of entrustment and consecration, we have said, is part of our Year of Faith observance, and part of the nine-year (“novena”) preparation for the 2021 celebration of the coming of the Christian Faith to our land in 1521 – five hundred years ago. But we hold in our minds and hearts even deeper grounds for this significant forthcoming event.
